Smiling man in a wheelchair wearing black

I am a Freelance Artist with a degree in Theatre and Performance. My practise has grown to a stage where I now require another creative enabler/carer. I am a full-time wheelchair user with Cerebral Palsy which effects my fine motor skills and speech. I need one-to-one practical support with all aspects of my life, but for this position I would particularly prefer someone with an artistic background to solidly support my practise. I manage and pay my own support staff through direct payments from Social Services. This does mean I am limited to a degree with what I can pay but I can be slightly flexible.

Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

·        Personal care, helping me to eat and drink, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of my environment, moving and handling (both people and equipment), shopping etc.

·        Attending and participating in meetings, workshops and practical sessions/rehearsals, note taking, support typing correspondence, applications, online materials, scripts and ideas

·        Networking, relaxing, socialising and everything in between!

Qualification and experience, preferred but not essential:

·        Foundation degree level or equivalent or/and relevant experiences in creative processes/facilitating workshops

·        Prior experience of caring (either professional or family)

Ideal Candidate (although a willingness to learn and build on these skills is as important):

will share my enthusiasm for creativity and will get stuck in with practical sessions and everyday creative development

will be able to note take, take dictation and have good Microsoft Office skills

will be motivated and support me with both my practice and social life

will be flexible and enjoy a variety of tasks

will have a willingness to learn

Will have a willingness to adapt and get stuck in with all aspects of life

Will have a good sense-of-humour

Will have common sense and an ability to judge mine and your own energy levels and needs to ensure breaks are appropriate and beneficial

Will be careful and respectful of the household myself and my mother live in and will work as part of my wider team

Benefits

All applicants must be flexible and enjoy working with people and must already have or be prepared to get:  a mobile and current DBS, registered as self-employed, public liability insurance (assistance can be given to source these and register as freelance).

Taining will be provided by myself and my current PA in the form of shadowing, a care plan/document detailing routine and there will always be chances to ask questions.

Pay – between £17-£19 per hr depending on flexibility and experience.
