LifeInSuspension Community Archive 2020
Welcome to the #LifeInSuspension #HangingAround Community Archive.
In the spring of 2020, so many aspects of the society we know were all brought to a dramatic halt – across the arts, sports, our personal and professional lives. Plans, projects and to-dos pressed pause and the way we connected, collaborated and celebrated diversity was forced to alter dramatically. Despite these sudden and extreme challenges, people still found ways of being creative and of connecting. In fact, many reconnected with the fundamental building blocks of creativity, realising how essential creativity is, in all its forms, to our shared well-being.
The vast and diverse personal experiences of our national and international lockdowns can never be fully captured and stored – the turmoil, trauma, loss and grief, experienced by individuals, families, communities: the uncertainty of the future.
This page provides a window into the lives and minds of individuals who were inspired by a stimulus of subverting this lockdown and staying creative and connected.
To interact with the archive, it’s best to view it on a larger screen such as a tablet or laptop – if you press the small maximise button, the archive will open in a separate tab and may be easier to view. Press the button once to jump to the image-tapestry of all the submissions. Each image and textbox links to the full video/image/sound clip. Credits of all who submitted can also be reached from this page.
Listen, watch, experience diverse and dynamic responses to the stimulus. Please note a couple of the clips may not be suitable for younger viewers and parents’ discretion may be necessary - these slides will carry a warning where needed.
The creative team were blown away by the responses and comments received. We have so enjoyed experiencing each and every one, and feel honoured that so many people were inspired to contribute to #LifeInSuspension.
Our original plan had been to create a short film that would sew some of the submissions together, but the quality and quantity of what we received warranted a whole new project of its own. It felt important to include each and every one – they are all unique and so diverse.
Here you can explore them at your own pace and in any order.
Which ones can you relate to? Which ones really make you think? If you were tasked with weaving these beautiful submissions into a narrative, what would it be? Is there a thread between them or a commonality which holds them together?
We would really love to hear what you think and any ideas you have of how the concept might evolve.
